If magazines are not dead but dying, can they be saved?

I wrote my “Steal This Article” column to generate discussion about publishing models (closed vs. open). In about two weeks that article will disappear into the ABA archives. Based on the initial lack of feedback, I asked the question “Are Blogs Dead?” Lots of feedback to that. Answer: no.

Maybe I was asking the wrong question. Maybe the correct question is “Are Magazines Dead?” If magazines are not dead but dying, can they be saved? Did people respond to my challenge because it appeared in print or because it appeared on my blog?
