How to opt-out of getting pre-approved credit card offers for five years or permanently.
Many people hate getting pre-approved credit card offers in the mail. Letters that waste your time (at best) or encourage identify theft (at worst). But opt-out websites can be hard for the suspicious among us to use.
FTC-approved OptOutPreescreen.com is the site to use for opting out of credit card offers. You can opt out for five years or permanently. I think that more people would use this site if it had a “.gov” top-level domain name. Better marketing is needed here. In any event, you can see that OptOutPreescreen.com is linked to from the Federal Trade Commission’s website. So that makes me trust it.
If you don’t want to use the website, then you can call 1-888-5-OPTOUT (1-888-567-8688) instead to opt-out.
