On 04/23/93, the University of Illinois’ NCSA (National Center for Supercomputing Applications) (http://www.ncsa.uiuc.edu/) released version 1.0 of its Mosaic web browser. The web browser brought a graphical user interface to the Internet and opened up the Net to the masses, much like graphical user interfaces for operating systems make personal computers more usable a decade earlier. Wired ran an interesting story about the anniversary (http://www.wired.com/news/culture/0,1284,58658-2,00.html).
