Personal issues or fire sale.
So Theo Epstein is no longer the General Manager of the Red Sox. Always a professional, Theo took the high road in his press conference and gave little insight about why he is leaving. I have two theories.
Theory number one. Theo is getting married and wants his privacy for the next year.
Theory number two. The Red Sox are getting ready for a fire sale, preparing to trade Manny (and perhaps some others) and not planning to re-sign their top free agents (like Johnny Damon). And Theo wants no part of it. He’d prefer to leave with his reputation – and the team – intact.
Time will tell.
